Farmville, VA June 19, 2008 - The "Fireworks After Dark" Fourth of July celebration will take place at the Farmville Regional Airport on Thursday, July 3, 2008 from 6:00pm until 10:00pm. Sponsored by the Town of Farmville and area businesses, this "not for profit" community event has been an annual affair since 2002.

The Downtown Film Series committee announces the eleventh season of the award-winning Stars Under The Stars! Since 1997, the Series has been dedicated to bringing classic motion pictures from yesteryear back to the big screen for the Farmville community. Spanning all film genres and featuring some of the all-time great actors and actresses, these films are presented at the grassy outdoor venue of the Crute Stage and have included classics such as Some Like It Hot, Singing in the Rain,To Kill a Mockingbird, and many more.

A friend in Charlottesville recently told us of a fantastic group of women who have joined forces to prove what we all know – women have power. 100+ Women Who Care began in Jackson, MI as a simple way to raise money efficiently and effectively for local charities. To date there are 5 other active groups in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Virginia. The newest one began in Charlottesville in April of this year. Chapters are being formed in Missouri, California and Iowa. We hope to add one to the Southside Area.

The Ducks raced, the burgers and dogs got grilled and eaten and SCOPE/Meals On Wheels was the beneficiary at First Friday, June 6 at Riverside Park in Farmville.
Thanks to the generosity of numerous sponsors and donors and the efforts of more than 20 volunteers, 250 ducks were bought for the big race with John Arehart winning the grand prize a Char-Broil 2-burner gas grill, donated by Sears.

Have fun, win a prize and help Meals On Wheels in the Farmville area at First Friday on June 6 when Sears presents a Duck Race for Meals on Wheels. The event (the ducks will race down the Appomattox River) will begin up stream and end at Riverside Park in Farmville in conjunction with First Friday, presented by the Farmville Jaycees and sponsor WFLO radio.
